Girls On the Run
Our philanthropy, Girls on the Run, is a non-profit organization that partners our confident women of character with pre-teen girls in the greater Los Angeles area to train and complete a 5k run. While the run at the end of the season is a testament to the girl’s physical endurance, Girls on the Run builds strong girls in so many more ways. Unwavering leadership, confidence, and positive self image are just a few of the lessons that Gamma Phi women help instill in young girls in our community. We encourage them to have compassion for themselves and others. We teach them to ignore societal stereotypes placed on women at a young age. We show them that girls can do ANYTHING! Girls on the Run is the cornerstone of what makes Gamma Phi more than just a sorority...it makes it a lifelong home.
Community Partnerships
This year to support Gamma Phi's philanthropic partner Girls on the Run the Alpha Iota chapter partnered with Tory Burch for a day of shopping with 20% of sales going to the local chapter of GOTR. Through a alumni connection this was possible.
Also introduced this year was Pie-A-Gphi on Bruin walk leading up to Moonball. Members from the UCLA community came and bought whipped cream pies to raise money for GOTR.
We also donated money to GOTR through an internal competition on Day of Giving using members socials to see who could get people to raise the most money.
MoonBall
Moon Ball is Gamma Phi Beta’s signature philanthropy event, where collegiate chapters across North America host a kickball, volleyball or basketball tournament each academic year to raise funds for our philanthropic partner, Girls on the Run. Moon Ball provides a healthy activity for participants, while allowing our members to serve as mentors and leaders in their communities.
